Strong Endorsement for Miss Cary.

"On no previous occasion, perhaps, has Miss Cary made a more distinct impression than last evening. Her voice, always beautiful, seemed even more so then, and she gave her solos with fine flavor. Perfect smoothness and rich modulation were the prominent qualities. Runs were executed rippingly and with a clearly evidenced ease. Pathos and joy alike were admirably expressed. Her first solo was ‘Oh, Thou That Tellest,’ which was beautifully sung, but it was in ‘He Shall Feed His Flock’ that she displayed, perhaps, the best qualities of her voice. This number was one of the songs of the ‘Messiah,’ and it was sung by her with irresistible sweetness. Warm applause greeted her appearance."—Daily Republican Register, Galesburg, Ill.

Miss Cary will be performing in Carthage at the Congregational church on Tuesday.

Square Discussion Scheduled.

The City Council Public Safety Committee is scheduled to meet this evening at the Police Department for its regular monthly meeting.

The agenda includes Committee consideration of bids for a Battalion Chief’s vehicle. Bids on Police Patrol cars are also to be considered. Funds were appropriated in this year’s budget.

The Committee is also scheduled to hear a review of the first Mudstock event sponsored by the Police Department.

Representatives of Main Street Carthage have requested a discussion of activities on the Square. The request was apparently prompted by the loss of three hanging baskets that the organization maintains.

The Public Safety Committee meets on the third Monday of every month and alternates the location between the Fire House and the Police Department. The Committee oversees the activities of both departments and deals with any public safety issues.

Committee Chair Charlie Bastin schedules a citizens participation period for each meeting to hear any concerns of citizens.

Just Jake Talkin'

Mornin',

I saw a few days ago that a guy servin’ a few months in jail out west was given a bag of M&M’s for doin’ some extra chores. At the time it was reported that the guy had won the million dollar prize offered by the M&M folks. What a story.

Then yesterday I see that after checkin’ with the candy company, the million bucks had already been given away. The Jail bird had actually won a 16oz. bag of M&M’s. Almost as good as a million bucks.

The guy is supposed ta get out of jail by late summer. I’m guessin’ he’ll always have ta wonder "what if?".

I was pretty disappointed to hear the bad news, but I’m bettin’ not near as bad as he does.

This is some fact, but mostly,

The Super Handyman

If you have plain old wooden drawers or cabinets in your shop and find the knobs come off easily, you are not alone. Most shop drawers are full of heavy things, and the average knobs are just not made for such weight.

Why not use a hole cutting saw to bore out some holes in the cabinets doors and drawer fronts? The holes are easy to grab, and they cannot come undone like the knobs do. You can sand them smooth if you like, to avoid any splinters. Also, be sure to make the holes big enough so your fingers don’t get caught.

SUPERHINT- If you need to remove old carpeting to install new flooring, save some money by doing the removal yourself. To make the job easier, cut the existing carpet into smaller pieces before pulling it up.

Dear Al & Kelly: We do most of our family camping during the warmer months, so our tent gets stored in the garage. One thing we do to help it last longer is to make sure we store it properly. Before packing it away, we always clean the canvas with a tent cleaner and then add more waterproofing. We rub all the aluminum poles and zippers with waxed paper.

The wax coating keeps them from getting rusted and pitted even though our basement is kind of damp in the winter time. It also makes them slide back together easily. If you take the time to do these simple things, your tent will last a long time like ours has.
