Bid Changes Stall Traffic Signals.
The City Council Public
Works Committee will submit bids for a new
traffic signal and intersection improvements at
Chestnut and Garrison to the full Council without
recommendation at next Tuesdays regular
Council meeting. A motion by member Charlie
Bastin to reject both of the bids submitted for
the project drew a 2-2 vote from the Committee.
The project is included in the
proposed budget for the fiscal year 2000/2001 for
approximately $100,000. Bids were substantially
higher than expected. The low bid from APAC was
$155,324 and G&G Construction bid the job at
$187,640.
Engineering Department Director
Joe Butler told the Committee that after seeing
how high the bids were, work that could be
completed by the City Street Department and
CW&EP, and minor design changes were taken
out. The resulting negotiated price from APAC was
$124,000. The same specs were than shown to
G&G with a resulting bid from them of
$116,917. Butler recommended the final low bid.
Committee Chair Bill Fortune and Bastin wanted to
rebid the job with new specs. McPheeters and
Johnson voted no.
