The only way a fish can take a shower is to jump up when
it rains.
A man goes to an office-supply store to
update his office equipment. The clerk says, "Would
you like to see some of our two-way phone systems?"
"No, just the fax."

My sister has a new diet that allows
her to eat anything that comes from a blender. For dinner
yesterday, she drank three chickens and a roast beef.

INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have
Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.
NORTH SIDE SALOON
FIGHT.
Chances Look About
Even Women Signers of the Petition.
The application for renewal of the
license for Al Parkers north side saloon was
brought before the county court this afternoon.
As matters stood at the opening of the
case there were 22 for and 24 against renewing the
license. The qualifications of those appearing on the two
lists was still being canvassed at 4 oclock, it
appearing to be about a tie between the two sides, as to
the names so far admitted.
The case is being hotly contested. Dr.
J.W. Stewart is taking an active part against the
proposition. Saml McReynold is attorney for the
petition and T.C. Tadlock the attorney for the
protestors.
Speaking of the matter this morning Dr.
Stewart said: "We judge from what we hear that it is
a pretty even fight, with the court favoring our side.
They talk about women being the hope of reformers, if the
right to vote could only be secured for them, and yet of
the three women who are tax payers in this block two of
them have signed the saloon petition."
Al Parker only said: "I think our
petition is one which will secure the necessary
license."

Today's Feature
Another Look At
Myers Park Plan.
The agenda for the City Council
Public Works Committee includes discussion of a
proposed replat of the Myers Park Subdivision.
The meeting is scheduled for this evening at 5:15
in City Hall.
The proposal includes the
elimination of the proposed "focal
point" circle drive in the center of the
development. It also would eliminate the view
corridor directly south of the circle drive. The
view corridor was planned as green space. Under
the proposal approximately six more acres would
be available for sale. The plan would include
extending Garrison Avenue through the development
to connect with HH highway. (details of the plats
are inside of todays paper)
According to the new proposal,
the cost to the City for including the traffic
circle and the view corridor would be just over
$700,000. Included in this cost is nearly
$500,000 estimated to be the value of the six
acres of land that is presumed to be sold. The
proposal estimates the cost of extending Garrison
to HH would be about $400,000.
The proposal was included in
agendas delivered to Committee members with no
reference to who initiated the proposal.

Just Jake
Talkin'
Mornin',
There are those who prob'ly
figured that the discussion about how Myers
Park Development was to be laid out was
settled. The current plat was worked out over
a period of at least a couple a years.
The proposal bein' looked
at by the Public Works Committee meetin' is
not a new one. Fact, I'd guess it was pulled
from the files of drawin's considered over
the years.
The main considerations
have not been dollars and cents, but goes to
the basic philosophy of what Myers Park will
represent for the City. Those favoring the
current plan want the development to be a
gateway, welcomin' folks with a show of
sorts. The new proposal aims at more of a
nuts and bolts type development. Still
pleasin', but not so much show. Back to the
future.
This is some fact, but
mostly,

C IT TWICE:
Although vitamin C is also an antioxidant, and
has been shown effective in helping to strengthen
the immune system, it was not included in this
particular study. However, another study on
vitamin C supplementation suggests people take
the nutrient twice a day. Apparently, if you take
your vitamin C mostly in the morning, the body
will have flushed out what it doesnt use in
12 hours. To maintain the benefits of vitamin C
for 24 hours, take half your dosage in the
morning and the other half before going to bed.
CALCIUM UPDATE: I recently
spoke with a dairy industry representative who
insisted that the only good source of calcium is
milk and milk products. She admitted that in the
past, they had problems persuading people to use
their foods to help prevent osteoporosis, because
the saturated fat content of most milk products
could lead to cardiovascular problems as well as
overweight. Today, she said, milk, yogurt, and
many cheeses are offered either fat free or fat
reduced. While thats certainly true, I
still dont recommend that you consider milk
and milk products as your primary calcium source.
Other foods also provide this important mineral,
including cauliflower, broccoli, white beans,
rutabaga, Chinese cabbage, turnip greens, and
tofu (bean curd).
