today's laugh
I saw a crazy western the other day. Instead of horses,
they rode on a cross between a horse and a kangaroo. It
was so that the cowboys could ride inside during bad
weather.
A young writer sent a manuscript to a
famous author, with a note saying, "Please read this
manuscript and advise. Please answer quickly as possible
because I have other irons in the fire."
The noted writer sent back a brief note that said,
"Remove irons. Insert manuscript."

F.M. MDaniel In
Charge.
In the sale at the Gray Eagle Saturday
to satisfy outstanding debts, it was only the mill which
was sold, and F.M. McDaniel was the purchaser. As the
mine and mill have been idle over a week, however, Col.
Corby, of St. Joe, who owns the land, forfeited the lease
on the company today in accordance with the terms of the
lease and immediately released the ground to F.M.
McDaniel, the purchaser of the mill.
This was promptly arranged this morning
and the mill was started up again now being run in the
name of F.M. McDaniel. It is said that a re-organization
of the company will be effected, in the near future, who
will take the property and operate it under a new name.
According to this statement Mr.
McDaniel is only holding the property by general
agreement, awaiting the organization of which he will be
a member.

Today's Feature
Developer Incentives Change Proposed. The Public Works Committee voted last
Tuesday evening to forward to the Council a
modification to the existing curb, gutter, and
paving incentives for developers. The
modification would limit the total amount any one
developer could receive in a year to $30,000. For
the last several years developers of residential
property were allowed up to $20,000 reimbursement
for curb and gutter construction, and up to
$20,000 for street construction, or a total of
$40,000 per year, subject to the availability of
City funding.
Reimbursement was available
upon completion of a project and was paid at a
rate of up to $9 per running foot for curb and
gutter and up to $9 per running foot of street.
The fact that curb runs on both sides of a street
meant a developer would run out of curb and
gutter money before street funds were cut off.
The changes proposed by the Public Works
Committee would simply combine the two
reimbursement incentives into on program. A total
of $40,000 has been earmarked for the program for
next year.
A separate mechanism is being
developed to allow existing neighborhoods without
curb and guttering to apply for funds.

Another busy week around here
!! The two new Lockerbie electric potters
wheels were delivered earlier this week !! It was
very exciting to see that truck pull into the
driveway !!! Too bad those things weighed about
500 pounds each !! We had to bring in a couple of
the super nice guys from Orbit Products to help
the driver get them unloaded !! We thank Roger
and Kyle for their help and we thank Don for
sending them out to help us !!
The new Members Gallery
has been patched, painted and track lighting has
been installed !! Its a real gallery now !!
All we need now are some paintings to hang and it
will really shine !!!
The new classroom on the second
floor is already being used !! The new sculpture
sessions started this last Thursday. We have had
new lighting installed in there as well. We want
to thank C & M Electric for their super fast
service and let them know much we appreciate how
helpful and polite their workmen are !!
Life drawing sessions are still
going, as usual. They are on Thursday evenings
and anyone interested in the artistic study of
the human figure is welcome to join us. Its
five dollars each and you need to bring your own
drawing materials.
Did you see the coverage of
Bill Snows stone carving workshop in Alba
!! We made quite a few papers and TV newscasts !!
It was sooo much fun !! Loud, dirty and hot !!
But we loved it !! Bill is a such a great guy to
put up with days and days of beginners !! Total
students in the workshop was seventeen !!! Three
cheers for Bill !!!! We cant wait for next
year !!!
Dont forget to register
for artCamp 2000 !! We have a full two weeks of
FUN, FUN and more FUN !! Its a great
opportunity to get some hands-on experience in a
lot of different mediums !! Twelve dollars per
day, per student.
Some of the classes are a full
2 days to be able to complete the project so keep
that in mind when signing up !! We have left some
registration forms with class information on the
front door for your convenience !!
More.......next week. 358-4404.

Talkin'
Mornin',
I discovered a long time a
go that the only way to really know what an
antique is worth is to sell it.
Although the folks at the
antique appraisal fair tomorrow on the Square
may not be able to tell ya what you can sell
for, they may just help ya discover one of
those treasures that are worth more than ya
thought.
Course they will
likely run into quite a few pieces that
arent near as collectable as ya might
have figured.
From what I understand, the
idea of this get together is not to set
prices, but to give folks an honest opinion
of what they might have ta pay for a similar
piece. Sellin it may be a little
different story, but, like I said, there is
only one way ta find out what someone is
willin to pay.
This is some fact, but
mostly,
Just Jake Talkin.

Back from Texas.....long,
lovely trip. Hot as usual, but my daughter, Mary
is now married to her high school sweetie in her
dream wedding. Nothing like seeing a
daughters dream come true to boost the old
immune system! Stress tears it down.
Like many others, when I am in
the heat and humidity (whether Texas or Mo.!) my
imbalances show up in the form of swelling. This
time I managed it quite well by taking my
Emergen-C upon arising then following it with two
large glasses of pure water. Had to cut out the
caffeine as it was not acting as a diuretic, but
aggravating the situation. Dont know why.
In the afternoon I would take another packet of C
w/potassium and then again later in the evening
if I needed it. I had some swelling, but not like
usual.
I met a woman at the reception
who was most excited to share her story with me.
She had been burned quite severely on her thighs
and stomach when a pan of boiling water spilled
on her. She had heard of MSM and was thinking of
taking it for her arthritis before the accident.
She began to read more about it and took large
doses to help her skin heal after the grafts. It
was a remarkable story of fast healing and less
pain.
If you like mint, I have plenty
to pass on. Peppermint is known for its
ability to calm the stomach and for relaxation.
It smells good and is also good to brew a strong
batch and pour in a bath to help alleviate
itching from mosquitos and chiggers. It cools the
skin at the same time. Suggest if you get some
mint you find a place to confine it as it will
take over your garden which is why I have SO MUCH
to give away.
