Son: Well, if you don’t like them, then why did you buy that other pair that’s in my drawer?

I crossed my hens with parrots to save time.
Why did you do that?
I used to waste a lot of time hunting fo the eggs. Now the hen comes up to me and says: I just laid an egg - go get it.

The store had quite a sale on fire goods today, but Mr. Edel will vacate the room at once for 15 days, in order that the interior can be remodeled especially for his convenience. His temporary quarters are not yet selected.

Fatal Vision.

The Carthage Police Department is sponsoring an Alcohol Awareness event on Saturday, August 4 on the Carthage Square.

Participants will be able to test their skills driving a golf cart through a marked course while wearing "Fatal Vision Goggles." The goggle simulate the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Also scheduled for the event is the Missouri State Highway Patrol "Roll Over" machine. This demonstrates the effects of a vehicle rollover and passenger restraints on dummies in the vehicle.

A vehicle that is designed for use at locations for breathalyzer tests and temporary holding of impaired drivers will be available for tours. The vehicle is often referred to as the "BAT" mobile.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office will have their K-9 unit present and there will be several other activities available showing the results of alcohol impairment.

The activities begin at 7 p.m. on the west side of the square.

The Department will have free pizza and soda while supplies last.

Another artCamp Come and Gone.

by Robin Putnam, artCentral

artCamp is over.......and summer is almost over !! Where has the time gone ?! Just too busy....too busy........

We want to thank all of the great teachers for being here for our artCamp !1 We especially thank Jake Evans and Bobbie Williams for stepping in at the last minute to teach when a scheduled teacher had a sudden job conflict !! Thanks guys !! It’s good to know these kids are reliable and here when you need them !! Their parents should be very proud of them !!

The opening last Friday was wonderful. We had lots of new faces !! The last few openings we have been running low on the hors d’oeuvres by seven !! Someone is going to have to increase the amount of servings from now on !! We’re happy so many people come out and take advantage of the evenings opportunities.

The next art event will be the MGA held at the Precious Moments con-vention center in September. We have a number of our members participating in it this year and we wish all of them great success. For tickets to that event or for more information contact Sandy Higgins.

After the MGA we will have an opening on September 14th for Karolee Blanchard. She is a Joplin artist who focuses on realism and creating a mood with lighting in her oil paintings.

After that we have just two more shows and our year is over !! How quickly time flies !!!

Joe Leiter will be here in October and a group show with Bill Snow, Jorge Leyva, Penny Wilkinson and Perry Fleming will be in December.

Our 2002 calendar is full and will begin with a group exhibit put together by the Art Forum group. The dates for this show will be January 18 - February 22. The exhibit will be titled "Unveiled" and will feature numerous mediums with the subject matter being figures.

Busy, busy, busy...... Stop in and see the show.... it’s here until August 31st.

Just Jake Talkin'

Mornin',

‘Bout the most shockin’ thing they had us do in DriversEd was watch a slide presentation of various wrecks. Some of ‘em were pretty gruesome. ‘Course all the girls would turn away and the guys would act like they were enjoyin’ the show.

After class, the images would pop back in your head from time to time. The effect was most likely to actually make the kids see the real dangers of drivin’ crazy.

Police Chief Veach is pretty proud of the program bein’ put on this Saturday by a group of his officers. Says it’s good to get the kids and officers together for some fun, but this program should actually get some thinkin’ about the responsibility they have behind the wheel. By the way, grown ups can come too.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin’.

Natural Nutrition

Blood sugar disorders are nothing to fool around with. A blood sugar imbalance is not always easy to recognize, but a simple blood test can help you determine if your are having a problem. If so, treat it!

Some supplements which may be helpful in normalizing blood sugar levels include:

• Chronium..to help the body respond to insulin.

• Fiber supplements such as psyllium or bran (with lots of water).

• Vitamin B complex to help regulate carbohydrate metabolism.

• It has also been noted that many diabetics are low in magnesium.

Herbal supplements which have been helpful for hypoglycemia may include:

• Spirulina between meals to keep sugar stabilized.

• Gymnema sylvestre has been proven effective for improving sugar control and cravings.

• Siberian Ginseng to strengthen the adrenal glands.

• Pancreatic enzymesa are available in capsule form and many of my customers swear by them. If one chooses to watch sugar, alcohol and fruit juice intake along with other dietary considerations and exercise you may eliminate a potentially serious problem which will have long term effects on the body. There are herbal and nutritional combinations available which may make the process easier. A nice lavender, eucalyptus or geranium bath or massage may help alleviate some of the tensions associated with hypoglycemia.
