today's laugh

Yesterday I saw a man knocked right up in the air, and he lay stretched out under the telegraph wires unconscience, and when he woke up he found the wires all around his wrists.
He said: Thank goodness, I’ve led a clean life. They’ve given me a harp.

When he insulted me, I told him I never wanted to see his face again.

What did he say to that?
Nothing. He just got up and turned out the light.

ELKS TRIP TO MILWAUKEE.

Special Train and Band of 100 Members Go.

Walter Harrington returned this afternoon from Milwaukee, St. Louis and Kansas City, having arranged hotel accommodations and a special Missouri Pacific-Wabash train from Carthage, Joplin and Galena to the Elks national meet at Milwaukee, provided 100 members go. The Light Guard band will be taken along if the trip is successful.

J. G. Jacobs and granddaughter, Miss Alta Jacobs, of Carthage, who have been visiting W. J. C. Jacobs in Waynesboro, Pa., left for Baltimore, Washington and other interesting points. From the capital city they will go to Cumberland; and from there to Indiana. While visiting in Waynesboro, Miss Jacobs became a social favorite and will be missed by a host of friends.

Committe Ups The Golf Ante.

The City Council Public Services Committee voted Wednesday evening to expand the proposed $2.2 million golf course improvements to $2.8 million. The additional funding would pay for a parking lot, improvements to the club house, fencing and landscaping. The Committee also voted to begin meeting twice a month to accelerate the process of putting together a way to finance the project.

About three dozen golf enthusiasts attended the special meeting to hear not only about the proposed improvements to the original nine holes built in the ‘30’s, but also how the project would affect golf fees.

When the eventual $4 per round surcharge was mentioned, a comment of "that will never happen" was heard from a voice in the audience.

Several of those attending gave their opinions of the project. The proposed fee schedule was the main objection. Some want the City to pay for a larger portion of the improvements to keep fees down. The Committee is hopeful that grants can be obtained to pay for up to a million dollars of the cost.

Dear Mornin’ Mail,

We can’t thank you enough for advertising the cats at the Humane Society. I was so excited when I went in today to find that every single cat that was highlighted in your paper had found a home.

We have gone from destroying an average of 12 cats a week to adopting out almost as fast as they come in. We appreciate it, the cats appreciate it and I’m sure all the new cat owners appreciate it.

Opening Reception Tonight.

by Robin Putnam, artCentral

Tonight is the opening for Paula Giltner and Donna Still. From 6pm - 8pm and everyone is invited. Well behaved children are also welcome. As usual there will be hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

Paula is an artist in residence at Ozark Christian College and is a free-lance commercial artist. She works in watercolor, ink, gouache, oil crayon and pencil. Her subject matter includes landscapes, figures and domestic animals.

Donna is an art teacher with the Monett School District. She likes to produce 2 and 3 dimensioal pieces. Her style is varied and unique using pastels, hand-made paper and print making.

This is a very unique exhibit with some very interesting pieces !! And there are horses, horses and horses !!

This exhibit runs through August 31 so there is plenty of time to come in and check it out !

We have finished our first week of artCamp !! Whew !

We had quite a few kids in and out of here....especially Tom’s watercolor class....13 count ‘em....thirteen kids !!

Thank goodness we have a very capable teacher and assistant !! This year Bobbie Williams, Carthage, is the assistant and we’re soooo happy to have him !!

This next week we have six more days of classes including painting, sculpture, caricatures, cartoons, Aust- railian art and create-a-book.

The really good news is that all of these classes have one or more openings !! So if you thought you were too late to get your kids into a cool class....guess what it’s not too late!! But remember some have only one spot left......so hurry !

Just call Matt, here, and he will get you the info you need !!

We thank all of the teachers and Bobbie for getting us through that first week!! One down and one to go !!

More.........next week.

Mornin',

Accordin’ to Public Services Committee Chair Larry Ross, there are three distinct opinions when it comes to improvin’ the golf course.

Those that favor it, those that favor it but don’t want to pay for it, and those who want things left the way they are.

‘Course there is that other large group who really don’t have an opinion, and really, really don’t want to pay for it.

Due to that large number of unenlightened citizens, the Council will most likely not bring a bond issue to a vote of the people. Rather, they will look at what is called a "certificate of participation," a debt that doesn’t require a vote. They’re lookin’ at a twenty or thirty year obligation and need to find the combination of fees, grants, and/or general revenue to make it happen.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Natural Nutrition

by Mari An Willis

I take the liberty today of quoting from Dr. Whitaker’s Guide to Natural Healing, by Julian Whitaker, M.D. regarding an herb which I have recently received many requests for an explanation of what it does. Thanks, Dr. Whitaker.

"Lipo means fat, genic mean production. Lipogenic means fat production. One way to assist weight loss is to inhibit fat production by taking substances that are lipogenic inhibitors. One such agent is a component of fruit of the Malabar tamarind (Garcinia cambogia). The component is hydroxycitrate."

Hydroxycitrate has been shown to be a powerful inhibitor of fat formation. It also has other effects that promote weight loss. One study showed hydroxycitrate produced a "significant reduction in food intake, and body weight gain"........in other words, hydroxycitrate is not only a powerful inhibitor of fat production, it also suppresses appetite."
