Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. If at first you dont succeed, sky diving is not for you. 1901 Samples of Dried Up Blackberries. D. W. Allen, of 2 1/2 miles northwest of Carthage, was in town today with sample blackberry bushes showing the effect of the drought on the crop. Even the bushes themselves have dried up and the leaves are pale and crisp. The sprouts are literally loaded with fruit and it is all shriveled and dwarfed. One branch of a late variety has the berries shriveled in the green and they never will be ripe. Mr. Allen has a patch of 24 acres and where there would have been bushels and bushels of luscious fruit, if there and been seasonable rains, there is nothing now but hard shriveled little knots that started out to become berries and dried up on the road. The White Oak school house, 2 1/2 miles east of Avilla, burned Thursday night. It is not known how it caught fire. Nothing was saved.
