The best way to stop that noise in your car is to let him drive.

The tourist said, "Any big men been born around here?"

The native replied, "No, best we can do is babies. Different in the city, I suppose."

SEWERS FOR THE SCHOOLS.

Board Plans Various Improvements for the Different Buildings.

The school board last night heard the report of the committee on grounds and buildings, and ordered various improvements. All buildings in the sewer districts are to be given sewer connection, doing away with unsightly out-buildings. The High school, Central, Franklin and Benton will probably be in the new district.

Wall papering, painting and board blacking are to be done at most of the buildings, and the basements of the Benton and Irving ward buildings are to be made into rainy day play rooms for the pupils.

Several fires have been narrowly averted by a deficient heating system at the High school building, and that is to be remedied.

Sam Wheeler was re-elected janitor of the High school building.

Appraisal On The Square.

The Second Annual Antiques and Collectibles Appraisal Fair will be held on the Carthage Square tomorrow, June 2 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Main Street Carthage is sponsoring the event and board member Sherry Allan is expecting that over a thousand verbal appraisals will be executed.

According to Allan the event is the only fund raiser of the year for Main Street Carthage. The City of Carthage did contribute funds for promotion of the gathering this year and any profits from the fair will go toward operating expenses for the organization.

Three tents will be set up on the Square to accommodate the eight appraisers. Tickets will be required for an appraisal and will be available at two other tents. Tickets will be $5 per item.

Although the appraisers will not give any written evaluations, the event allows many to see if that treasure in the attic has any value.

Advance tickets can be purchased at the Main Street Carthage office or Main Street Mercantile on the Square.

Stone Carving Today and Tomorrow!

by Robin Putnam, artCentral

Today is the first day of the Bill Snow stone carving weekend !!

The carvers will start their hammers around 8am and chip away until 5pm. It’s an awesome sight so don’t miss it !! We want everyone to come out and see what we’re up to !!

Most of the carvers will be working on huge chunks of alabaster......mostly the pink.

One carver has his own limestone and one has her own piece of white alabaster.

For those not sure about stone......if you’ve ever seen any of Bill’s sculptures you would recognize the ala-basters.

They come in pink, raspberry, and white with some of the harder to find colors like green and black. The black is only found in the black hills of So. Dakota and is very unique.

Kansas and Indiana limestone comes in hues of beige, grays and tans. A harder stone than alabaster but not as hard as marble. Carthage stone is a very hard limestone and not much fun to carve on !!

The carvers will be working all day Saturday, as well.

The group will take time out for lunches each day but Matt will be here during our regular hours so someone will always be here.

With all the hoop-la going on this weekend we want to mention next weekend will be a busy one as well !!

The annual Membership Show will have it’s opening reception on June 8th. As always you’re invited !!

For this opening we will have special entertainment !! The "Divas" will be performing a medley of their favorite tunes. The "Divas" consist of three friends who love to perform and always are a hoot !!!!

Busy, busy, busy........we hope you’ll come by both weekends and see just what we are all about !!!

We are gaining new members on a regular basis why not you, too !!

More.........next week. 358-4404. 1110 E 13th & www. ozarkartistscolony.com

Tues. - Sat 9am - 3pm.

Mornin',

They say that antiques are only worth what someone will pay for ‘em. Since the appraisers at the fair tomorrow aren’t allowed to buy the stuff ya bring, you won’t know for sure. But, chances are you’ll leave with a better idea of what ya got.

A couple a folks I talked to that attended last year’s fair definitely though they got their five bucks worth. The also got a little history lesson about the items they brought in. They weren’t lookin’ to sell their things anyway, just wanted ta satisfy their curiosity.

After your education, ya might want to browse through the antique and collectible shops on the Square and see if ya spot some bargains. They also say the best time ta buy an antique is when ya see it.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Natural Nutrition

What great weather. Unusual, but better than way too hot. The comfrey is blooming, the mullein is growing nicely, the fruit is on the trees and the poke is past it’s prime. This promises to be a beautiful summer.

Hot weather being on hold has given the dieter a little extra time to fit into those summer clothes. So many products on the market it is hard to decide which is the best. There are some simple things to keep in mind when selecting. What are my other health restrictions? Diabetes? Heart disease, kidney disease? Do I crave sweets and carbs or hooked on salt? Ice Cream? Try to be specific in these areas. The ice cream craving seems to lessen if one takes a calcium capsule.

Garcinia Cambogia is an herb registered under the name Citrimax (1m). Scientific research has identified the natural compound to be Hydroxycitric acid. It can help to curb the appetite and is known to block the formation of fatty tissue which means less fat storage. Vitamin B6 helps relieve water retention in the hot summer months. Instead of mahaung or ephedrine many diet formulas now call upon green tea extract to set up a fat burning process in the body. Green tea does contain caffeine. The amino acid L-carnitine primary purpose is to encourage fat metabolism in the muscles and is necessary for the heart and organs to function properly.

The other day I was picking a friends brain for some information and she passed on some sage advice...read slowly..."You never can sometimes always tell what you last expected to happen the most." That about summarizes much of life. Breathe deeply and pass on a smile.
