THE BONES OF A GIANT.

Rumored Prehistoric Discovery Being Made at Neck City.

M. C. Clemmons, the socialist drayman, was arguing hot and heavy on the question of the degeneracy of the race with an Alba man yesterday, when the visitor clinched an argument with: "Did you see those prehistoric bones they are taking out at Neck City? No? Well, they have got a mine or well, or something or other, down there a little ways and have found some enormous human bones. The femur bone found indicates that the man must have been at least eight feet tall. The excavation is still in progress, and until other bones are found, enough to complete the skeleton the matter is being kept quiet."

Flying High.

Main Street Director Carol Green asked the City Council Public Works Committee Wednesday afternoon to consider using Civic Enhancement funds to purchase flags to be placed around the square.

A total of nineteen flags are attached to light poles preceding holidays, but are taken down afterwards. Last year the flags flew throughout the summer, but had to be replaced in the fall. Some were stolen, but mostly the replacement was due to fading and wear.

Street Commissioner Tom Shelley said his department replaced the flags at the end of last summer, but no funding was appropriated for new flags, so he was having his crew take them down between holidays. He hoped that less time exposed to the weather would prolong the life of the flags. Shelley estimated the set of flags would cost between six and seven hundred dollars.

Green requested the funding for replacement flags so they could be flown continuously between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The Committee asked City Administrator Tom Short to report back on available Civic Enhancement funds.

artCamp Classes Filling Up Fast!

by Robin Putnam, artCentral

For those of you putting off signing up your kids for artCamp we want to let you know which classes have only a spot or two left !!

Cartoons and comics, Egyptian, clay and African masks are the ones filling up first. Of course there are lots of other classes to choose from so if your kids aren’t too picky surely there will be something else for them to take !!

We want to remind you that these classes are filled on a first come basis and pre-payment is required. So if you’re thinking about putting a check in the mail you might want to consider delivering it in person if your little one has his or her heart set on a certain class !!

We all seem to be recovering from the last few weeks of activity !! As much as we love being busy out here we also love the calm days, too !!

Big thanks to Mike and his crew for getting the entire grounds all mowed, weeded and mulched prior to all of the festivities !! The place looked absolutely wonderful ! Actually, it always does !!

The exhibit we have going on now will be up until July14th so you have plenty of time to come out and see all the wonderful art !! There is stunning jewelry, huge watercolors, unique photography, sculptures in stone, metal, clay and mixed media plus all kinds of other paintings !!

Next on our calendar of events will be a two-person show. Paula Giltner and Donna Still will have their latest works here from July 28 through August 31. The opening reception will be on July 28th.

September 14th will be the opening for Karolee Blanch-ard. Her show will run through October 12 and begining on October 26th Joe Leiter will exhibit his latest paintings.

Mornin',

If ya haven’t be out and about, it’s time ta fill ‘er up.

Gas prices have been droppin’ and I’m seein’ prices around the buck-thirty range. I’m assumin’ they’ll be creepin’ back up around the 4th as usual.

I’m still tryin’ to relearn the ability to stop a gas pump on the exact amount. Puttin’ in ten dollars worth and endin’ at double zero is next impossible these days. I’ve notice that some stations make sure ya pay the extra two cents, but most have the little cup with the sign that says "Need a penny, take one. Need two, get a job."

It’s amazin’ how all the sudden there is plenty of gas bein’ produced. They say they’re still payin’ two bucks on the left coast but they are always on the cuttin’ edge.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin’.

Natural Nutrition

by Mari An Willis

If our bodies need something and we cannot synthesize it in the body, it must be obtained from the diet. This is easy to understand, but WHAT and HOW are the hard parts of that statement. If we do not have a handle on nutrition we may not know that some of the most basic and important fatty acids, which are considered essential for good health, are not readily available in the average American diet. Omega-6 fatty acids are distributed evenly in most tissues, but omega-3 fatty acids are concentrated in a few tissues including the brain. Learning specialists now believe omega-3 fatty acid deficiency leads to unique symptoms during childhood which may include behavioral problems.

*In 1981 researchers first hypothesized that children with ADHD may have reduced nutritional status of essential fatty acids because they showed greater thirst (a symptom of essential fatty acid deficiency) compared to children without ADHD.

*In 1983 fatty acids were examined in 23 maladjusted children and 20 "normal" children, EFA blood levels in poorly behaved children were significantly lower.

*1987 further research documented that 48 children with ADHD reported significantly greater thirst, more frequent urination and more health and learning problems than children without ADHD. Lower levels of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids were found in the subjects with ADHD symptoms.

Flax seed oil has both omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and is easy to incorporate into the diet. It can be mixed with a variety of other oils, butter, or even floated on soups or in salad dressings.

Introducing these foods can prove challenging if you have no experience with the product. Flax for Life, Jade Beutler, contains many good recipes. It may only take a tablespoon or two a day to change some behaviors!!
