 A farmer was passing
the insane asylum with a load of fertilizer. An inmate
called through the fence, "What are you
        hauling?" "Fertilizer," replied the
farmer. "What are you going to do with
it?" "Put it on my strawberries." "And we put cream on ours, and
they say were crazy," the inmate countered. Waiter- "These are the best eggs
that we have had for years." Diner- "Well, bring me some you
        havent had so long." 1902

 Should
Try for Packing House. Editor:As it is now a fixed fact
that Carthage is to have another railroad, and possibly
two more in the near future, would it not be in place for
the wideawake citizens of Carthage to make a strong
effort to induce capital to come to our city. As our
woolen mill industry is something of the past would it
not be well to try and induce some of the large packing
firms of Kansas City or St. Joseph to come to this city
and establish a branch packing house, using the old
woolen mill building for that purpose. It is well located
for the business. Our railroads reaching out in every
direction would make this an ideal distributing point. Mrs. H. T. Harrison returned Saturday
afternoon from a visit of several weeks with her neices,
Mrs. Billy Hill in Kansas City and Mrs. Andy Deacon, in
        Harrisonville.

                Talkin'
 Mornin',

                    Ive
always liked functional things. Things that
do the job theyre supposed ta do and
not let ya down. A claw hammer is a
functional thing. Contrary to popular belief,
its main purpose is to remove nails. Sure you
can drive nails with it, but what use would
it be if it wasnt able to fix all those
mistakes bein made across the country.
If folks didnt bend nails and pound
em in the wrong places pretty often,
there wouldnt be a need for a claw. That also tells ya that the
claw hammer is honest. It knows what
its made for and doesnt try ta
hide it. Its not like one a
those little tack hammers with the screw
drivers in the end. Now the hammer has a
function. It keeps all those drivers where ya
know where they are. This is some fact, but
                    mostly, Just Jake Talkin. |

Valentines Day falls on Friday, Feb. 14,
and Presidents Day is celebrated on Monday,
Feb. 17. February is also famous for Polar
Plunges, a celebration in which people, for very
little reason at all, jump into viciously cold
bodies of water mostly for charity or
tradition, but sometimes just for the thrill of
it. If you are near a body of water thats
cold and you are in need of a brisk dip, try
shouting for all you are worth and jumping in
its quite a rush. Happy February! |
