The American space plan is a little slowed down. We plan to send up three astronauts in one rocket, and there’s still a little disagreement on who should sit by the window.

Charity Union Work.

The present cold snap makes many demands for coal and wood come to the Charity Union these days and President E. Knell has his hands full looking after the worthy poor to keep them from suffering. Warm clothing is also much in demand.

Mr. Knell has found a good home for a 15 year old boy named Miller, with a family living north of town. Mr. Knell believes that it is better for many parents to thus provide for children they are unable to properly care for and he acts accordingly.

Jake Barker, the conductor of the electric line, is taking an enforced lay off for a day or two, owing to a badly inflamed eye, which was injured in a very unusual manner. Mr. Barker was standing on the rear platform of his car when a passenger began rolling a cigarette. A gust of wind caught a quantity of the tobacco and whirled it into the conductor’s eye, blinding him temporarily and causing a good deal of pain.

Library Celebration.

The 100th anniversary of the placing of the cornerstone in 1904 was celebrated yesterday morning in the Carthage Public Library. Library Director Jennifer Seaton spoke to those in attendance about the history of the Carnegie Library and the need for expansion. Seaton stated that the library opened its doors to the public February 6th, 1905 after three days of ceremonies for the library.

Seaton reported that on the 12th anniversary of the library in 1917, the Carthage Press printed a column that stated the library was "locally lacking" in size.

"We are long overdue for a larger facility," said Seaton. "The newspaper published its locally lacking size back in 1917."

Library Board President Rod Hendrickson also spoke on behalf of the fund-raising for the expansion of the Library. He stated that so far the Library Foundation Board has raised $1,348,300 of the $2 million needed by November 4th.

"We’re about $65,000 short right now," said Hendrickson.

Hendrickson encouraged those in attendance of the celebration to give to the library and announced that there were pledge donation forms available for those interested.

"This is an good opportunity to pledge," said Hendrickson. "This is not the primary purpose of this celebration."

Hendrickson informed that once the funding is in place and the three-sixteenth of a cent sales tax increase begins the expansion will take approximately eighteen months to complete.

"My estimate is the end of 2006," said Hendrickson. "It depends on the way the money comes in."

Mornin'

I grew up between two rivers, each about five miles away. Never had ta worry much about floodin’.

A friend a mine lived a couple hunderd yards from one of those rivers and ever’ four or five years would have to move his family to a motel. He would stay in the house and ward off floatin’ logs. Called his ten acres "God’s Country" and didn’t want to move.

Eventually the river won and my friend moved to higher ground. The house he protected is gone too, and he misses it some, but sleeps a lot better when a thunder storm rolls through.

I’m guessin’ the local rivers and creeks needed a good flushin’ out after the winter. Hopefully those nearby were able to stand back and let nature do its job and not worry ‘bout the recent good spring rain.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Natural Nutrition

It’s a great day in the Ozarks! Central park is one of my favorite parks to watch in early spring, it marks the opening for me as the crocous are abundunt and beautiful. They may get a little snow on them, but they are still there reminding us that there is an end to winter.

Of course, as winter clothes come off so does the realization that a little extra "winter padding" may have come on. So the weight loss issue is at hand again. An extract from Garcinia cambogia, -hydroxycitric acid (HCA) reportedly curbs the appetite and inhibits the developement of body fat. Another old time remedy for cutting the appetite is described in Louise Tenney’s Today’s Herbal Health...chickweed. You may be familiar with the plant as it grows right here in Mo. "Chickweed is recommended to aid in weight loss and to break down cellulite. It is a mild herb and has been used as a food as well as a medicine." Combine that with celery, which is often used as a diuretic to alleviate water retention and promote perspiration if water weight is a problem and you may have found an easy way to drop some pounds.

Sometimes I get something I just want to share..creates laughter as it is the BEST medicine.

"God grant me senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do like and the eyesight to tell the difference."
