"Yes sir, a pig is a hog’s little boy."

Another Postal Convenience.

Postmaster Tuttle is sending out notices providing for registering letters at residences through the medium of the carrier.

Heretofore, anyone registering a letter has had to go in person to the post office to do it. In order to avoid delaying the carrier the regulations under the new arrangement are very strict to the effect that a letter must be fully prepared for registration before it is presented. If it is lacking in any way the carrier simply refuses it and passes on.

In these days of money orders, drafts and checks only a small per cent of letters have occasion to be registered, but when they do this system will prove convenient. The Carthage post office will always be found taking full advantage of all accommodations the department may place at the disposal of postmasters.

I never have understood the logic of those life time guarantees on light bulbs. If ya look at the fine print on one I saw, to get a new bulb, all ya have ta do is send in two dollars and they’ll send ya a new bulb. And that for the ones that only cost a buck fifty in the first place.

Some warranties aren’t quite that bad, but I had one guy tell me that the $30 one year muffler and the $49 lifetime muffler were the same, just the warranty was better. This guy was bettin’ on a couple a things, either ya wouldn’t have the car by the time the muffler went out, or by chance, the muffler would last for longer than expected. If as many as half of the lifetime types had to be replaced, he still came out o.k. and had the cash up front. Course, there is a chance he won’t be in business for your lifetime.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Natural Nutrition

One may hear the term "folk medicine" and think of their Grandparents or other "practitioners" in their families. Folk medicine was and still is steeped with legends and lots of family twists on how to use these herbs God has given us. I find it interesting that over the years the scientific studies done on many of these botanicals has proven to be true or at least not disproved as to their effectiveness.

Not that long ago we were earth pioneers and it was hard. Our strong ancestors trusted in what they found and used. Word of mouth was important and observation of the use of plants was important just for survival. Now that we are space pioneers we tend to want to throw aside these traditions and seek the same kind of science that sent us to space to confirm our old ways.

In my modest opinion, that just won’t work. In that statement I am not advocating that one stupidly venture forth for a gathering experience and use whatever they find, but that one does not close their minds to the history of our plants.

Plants are used by all people, some call it food, some call it medicine. All depends on how it is being used. My one concern with all this is the election. How related? Well, if you want to know how your senators and reps look at or consider the use of herbs and simple vitamins. I suggest you go to the web site www.citizens.org/yourcongress/index.cfm and check it out. Ours seem to not have enough information to make important decisions about the upcoming availability of herbs and nutritional supplements to the general public without prescriptions to get the simple remedies. This is not a matter of the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) not having enough control....they have it now contrary to what you may have "heard" from some pretty influential sources. Influence does not equate to right. Please educate your reps and senators so they may make an educated vote on this most important subject. Yes, it does DIRECTLY effect all of us. Their ignorance probably will not lead to our bliss. Write them now as the elections are very near. If you see them, ask them where they stand on this issue.
