To Operate Pecos Valley Land Office.

H.G. Seaber of Chicago was here yesterday and had quite a crown well entertained for a while in the Harrington lobby telling of the Pecos valley country in New Mexico with its 2000 artesian wells for irrigation and $2,000,000 government expenditure for reservoirs in which to hold mountain water for supply for irrigation. He is to open headquarters in Carthage and J.P. Rhodes is already here as his representative with office with the Frisco Land Co.

One a these days I’m gonna do a time study on the efficiency of takin’ the time to carefully coil an electric cord and compare it to just throwin’ it in a heap and untanglin’ it when it’s needed. There is almost always a little stretch at each end, leavin’ a little clump a cord in the middle.

Now rope coilin’ is prob’ly a different story. Most of the time ya have ta pull out the full length of rope, so tangles slow ya down some.

A water hose, of course, is another matter all together. Some prefer not to coil hoses at all. Just leave ‘em layin’ on the lawn and raise the mower blade up an extra inch or so. That way the hose is always handy and with the grass keepin’ it hid, you don’t have to worry ‘bout someone takin’ it off the hook by the faucet.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Here's A Tip
By JoAnn Derson

• "Instead of buying costly freezer wraps for meats and chicken, I use the cereal bag that comes in a box of cereal. I pour the cereal into its own container, take out the bag and open the seams, wash it under cold water and let it drip dry. Then I store it in my freezer to use the next time I get meat for burgers or chicken for fajitas. ... I use the wrap just like rolled wax paper, and it’s great because after I take it out of the freezer, it never sticks to the meat." — E.M. in Pennsylvania

• "I used the mileage counter in my car to come up with several 2-mile routes for walking. Now, I can vary my walking routine and be assured that I have gone 2 miles per walk, which is my goal. I just drive from my house until I hit a mile on the trip odometer, and I walk to that spot and back." — I.L. in Nevada

• If you live in an income-tax-free state, be sure to check your deduction for sales tax. New laws allow you to write off sales tax on big-ticket items, such as a new car or boat. Check with your tax preparer.

• To get coffee stains off of your coffee carafe, fill it with hot water and dissolve 2 teaspoons of dishwasher detergent in the water. Let it set for 10 minutes, and use a sponge to wipe the stains away.

• "I made a few small cakes for my daughter’s birthday party, and to send one home with a guest, I placed it on the lid of a plastic tub. Then, I inverted the tub and placed it on top. I hear it made it home safe and sound!" — E.D. in Texas

• "To distinguish between a cleaning toothbrush and one that is for teeth, I wrap a rubber band several times around the handle of the cleaning brush. This way, I know it has been used for cleaning." — U.L. in Minnesota
