Flu Clinics.
News release
The Jasper County
Health Department has administered all of their
adult flu and pneumonia vaccinations and do not
anticipate purchasing any more vaccine for this
flu season. There are still limited numbers of
the flu vaccine for children ages 6 months to 35
months. Children within this age group are
considered high risk and should be vaccinated for
influenza. The cost of the vaccine is $15.00
unless the child is on Medicaid. Those interested
in flu vaccination for their children are advised
to call the health department at 358-3111 or
877-879-9131 for more information.
Tree Seedling
Distribution.
News release
The Jasper county
University of Missouri Extension Center now has
Missouri Department of Conservation order forms
for seedling trees and shrubs. The George O White
State Forest Nursery near Locking, MO., offers
Missouri residents a variety of seedlings for
reforestation, windbreaks, erosion control, as
well as wildlife food and cover. The application
lists the species that are available and the
price. It also outlines the ordering procedure.
In addition to
individual species choices, several bundles of
mixed species, designed for special purpose
plantings, may be purchased. These include a
wildlife cover bundle, conservation bundle, quail
cover bundle, walnut variety bundle, extra-large
nut tree bundle, and two nature bundles.
The time or order
placement - not delivery date - determines the
priority for reserving trees. It is important to
place orders as soon as possible because
reservations for trees are made on a first come,
first serve basis until supplies are depleted.
Each year many species sell out quickly.
Trees may be
shipped to individuals or picked up at the George
O White Nursery near Licking, MO.
Persons planning
to make large plantings may wish to request free
advice from the Missouri Department of
Conservation Forester or Wildlife Services
Biologist for their area. These individuals may
be contacted through the Missouri Department of
Conservation Offices in Neosho or Joplin or by
writing directly to State Forester, Missouri
Department of Conservation, P.O. Box 180,
Jefferson City, MO 65102.
University of
Missouri Guide Sheets: G5008 "How to Plant
Forest Trees", G5006 "Before You Order
Tree Seedlings", G5900 "Planting Tree
Windbreaks in Missouri" and G5009
"Mechanical Tree Planting" are among
those available at the University of Missouri
Extension Center in each county.
For additional
information, or to order trees online, go to
www.missouriconservation.org/forest/nursery or
contact the Jasper County University of Missouri
Extension Center located in the Courthouse
Basement, Carthage MO or call 417-358-2158.
University of
Missouri Extension improves peoples lives
with education and research from the four
campuses of the University of Missouri System and
Lincoln University that focuses on high-priority
needs of people throughout the state. Each County
Extension Center, with oversight by locally
elected and appointed citizens, is a local link
to these unbiased resources.

Talkin'
Mornin'
I heard the other day that some thirty-million of
us in the U.S. are gonna be travelin
somewhere for Thanksgivin. Most of us by
car... "Over the hills and through the
woods..."Somehow it
just doesnt seem as romantic as it sounds
in the song.
Usually by the time ya get to
where youre goin the old taste buds
are so numb from junk food and soft drinks
its hard to enjoy some real homemade food.
The deserts can fool ya, but
Ive figured out if ya watch the kids they
spread the word quick about whats best.
Just stand by and wait and get in on servin
deserts to the kids. Course that gives ya
control of the servin spoon, so you can
always set your portion aside while theyre
not lookin.
This is some fact, but mostly,

Nutrition
by Mari An WillisWe have been reading alot about
L-arginine, an amino acid. In a recent article
discussing this amino acid, it spoke of the
benefits of L-arginine for a healthy
cardiovascular system and sexual function to
wound healing and lean mass development.
Although arginine is classified
as a non-essential amino acid, scientists now
think that using the supplement may be best for
optimal well-being. In a recent study men with
high cholesterol who took l-arginine experienced
drops in both blood pressure and homocysteine, a
substance associated with heart attack and stroke
(J Nutr 2005;135:212-217). Also, UCLA
researchers believe that combining L-arginine
with antioxidants such as Vit. C & E may
reduce the inflammation that can lead to blocked
coronary blood vessels (Proc Natl Acad Sci on
line 1/13/05).
L-arginines ability to
stimulate blood flow supports enhanced intimacy
in both men and women. Men & women
experiencing sexual disfunction have enjoyed
greater levels of satisfaction after taking an
L-arginine based supplement (Hawaii Med J 1998).
According to Earl Mindell in the Vitamin Bible,
arginine has helped infertile men by making sperm
stronger and healthier and is often referred to
as the "nutritional Viagra".
One may want to avoid arginine
if you have a cold sore break-out.

Letter to the Editor
Opinions expressed
reflect those of the writer and not necessarily
those of the Mornin Mail
Dear Editor,
As a native Carthaginian, I now
call North Carolina home. However, my roots go
deep in Carthage where I was born in 1954 at
McCune-Brooks and graduated from Carthage High
School in 1972 before moving to Oklahoma that
summer after Leggett & Platt
transferred my father. Since then, I have been
back to Carthage only a few times to visit
friends and remaining family members, but have
always missed my graduating class high
school reunions.
Now I occasionally return to
Carthage via the Internet, and in doing so, found
your website among the many others that appear
when "Carthage Missouri" is searched
for. Im not familiar with your online
publication and dont know if you publish
such letters from Carthaginians like me who
remember fond times growing up in Southwest
Missouri. If so, please feel free to publish this
one and thereby invite any of my old classmates,
neighbors and other friends to contact me at the
email address below.
Best Regards,
Joel E. Griffith
