Fenders Saved His Live.

Abraham Robinett Went to Sleep on the Street Car Track.

Abraham Robinett owes his life to the fenders which have recently been placed on the electric cars. Robinett lives with his nephew at Oakland. He had returned from Joplin late last night, somewhat inebriated and when he got of the car, instead of going home, he sat down on the platform with his legs spread out over the track. A car in charge of Motorman Will Fullerton came around the curve south of the station, and the motorman saw the man’s limbs stretched across the track. He used his best efforts to stop the car but the distance was too short to bring it to a standstill. The fender beneath the front platform pushed the man’s legs off to one side of the track, thus saving him from serious injury. As it was, however, one ankle was badly sprained and he was cut in the back of the head. Robinett’s hurts were dressed in Webb City.

More About Parking In Yards.

The City Council Public Safety Committee will meet this evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Police Department. Items on the agenda include the discussion of vehicle parking in yards. This item has been discussed at several previous meetings of this committee and has been brought forward by citizens and committee members for further examination.

Under the current code citizens are allowed to have one unlicensed car parked in a yard without time restrictions. Cars with current licenses are not restricted in the amount of time they may be left or in number.

The citizens that have come before the committee have asked if the City might consider adopting a more restrictive policy citing the neighborhood appearance and health concerns as reasons.

Committee Chair Mike Harris has voiced concerns about adding any ordinance that might prohibit citizens with legitimate parking needs and the committee has been hesitant in taking decisive action. Sample ordinances have been in the review process and the committee will discuss the matter further this evening.

No Odor Complaints

My driver’s ed teacher had a question on almost ever pop quiz he ever gave us. He used many variations, but it was usually a true/false that stated: Driving an automobile is a right.

If you answered true, most likely you’d be back in class next semester. He explained at length that drivin’ was a privilege afforded to individuals by the government. The license was revokable at any time the government saw fit. A startlin’ realization for a group of wide eyed sophomores.

What the process does is protect those who wish to drive on the highways and streets in a relatively safe manner that others will do the same. If individuals would only respect the other folks rights, there’d be a lot less need for lawyers.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Do Plastics Taint Food in Microwave?

Q: I just read your "Microwave Myths" article and have something I need to clarify. Is it true that only glass products should be used in the microwave to heat up and/or cover food? I’ve read that using plastic wraps, wax paper, etc. emits chemicals into food when it is heated. — Trish, Daytona Beach, Fla.

A: I also have heard that using plastic in microwaves is bad, but only through conversations with acquaintances. So I decided to check it out, and find out where this information came from.

It turns out that the "plastic in the microwave" danger is just another Microwave Myth. On the Internet, the Web sites www.snopes.com, www.truthorfiction.com — both dedicated to debunking rumors and urban myths — put this information squarely in the "rumor" category.

The original rumor that plastic in microwaves is dangerous was apparently started after a doctor claimed on a local TV station that dioxin would leach out of plastic and into food in the microwave.

Plastics do contain other chemicals that might leach into foods during microwaving, but according to the Food and Drug Administration, the amounts are minimal and well within its safety requirements.
