Her Debut Recital.

Miss Rosine Morris Made a Great Hit in Baltimore Last Week.

The following is sent by a musical enthusiast of Baltimore.

"Miss Rosine Morris, the talented pianist of Webb City, and who formerly resided in Carthage, played her way into the hearts of an enthusiastic audience at her debut recital held at the Lyric in Baltimore, on the night of November 15. The hall was well filled with an interested audience who greeted Miss Morris with prolonged applause and showed their appreciation of the young artist’s efforts by frequent insistent calls for encores. The program was composed of classical selections all of which were rendered with charming grace and feeling."

Miss Morris expects in the near future to give a series of recitals in Maryland and adjacent states and her friends will be gratified to know what promises to be a brilliant future had so auspicious a beginning.

Nodler On Odor Control Bill.

State Senator Gary Nodler visited the Carthage City Hall on Monday to speak in a public forum concerning odor control and a proposed Department of Natural Resources (DNR) bill. The first opportunity for the bill to be passed and take effect would be August 28 of 2006.

Nodler said that the new bill would tighten the penalties for persistent odor violation by increasing fines for multiple violations. If there is more than one violation of the same type within 36 months the subsequent fines will be increased by a multiple equal to the number of violations that have occurred, according to Nodler.

Another feature of the bill would require DNR to establish a time-line for the public to know the status of a permit application.

"The public has a right to know how long this permit process is going to take," said Nodler.

The bill’s highest penalty for odor violations would revoke the permit for operation if the offender has 6 similar violations within 12 months or 12 violations within 36 months.

According to Nodler, Representative Peter Myers has been working on another bill which is similar to this bill but which pertains more to the county regulation for odors and concentrated animal feeding operations. Nodler said that there is a possibility of the two bills being combined prior to approval.

No Odor Complaints

If you’re like most, you seem ta be a little confused about the annual tradition of gettin’ around to turnin’ on the Christmas lights.

There seems ta be about four general camps when it comes to lightin’ up for Christmas here in Carthage. The tourist industry camp wants lights on as early as possible to attract folks travelin’ to Branson and there abouts to see the light displays there. The traditional camp wants the lightin’ delayed until after Thanksgiving. The moderate compromise with lights goin’ on about two weeks before the Turkey Day, and the erratic turn ‘em on about anytime they feel like it. I’m prob’ly missin’ a camp there somewhere. You personally have every opportunity to observe and support any or all.

It is the year of the independent light thinkers.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Here's A Tip
by JoAnn Derson

• Do your grocery shopping on Wednesday. Studies show that there are fewer shoppers on that day, which means shorter lines.

• "We have a family chore jar for routine tasks around the house. Every night at dinner, we each get a chore from the jar to do the next day. We can trade, but it makes it easier to know that nobody is purposely giving you the hard chores — you picked one out of the jar yourself!" — K.V. in California

• If you’ve ever had a tough time threading a needle, try this trick. Spritz the end of the thread with a shot of hairspray. It makes the thread stiffer, and it goes right through with no fuss.

• "I have so many magazines that I sometimes forget to read them, so I put a large bin next to my chair in the family room. I put the newest ones in the back and then read from the front. If I am bored with a particular magazine, then I have to put it in the recycling — that is to say, I can’t go on to the newest before I have read the older ones. Also, I keep a manila envelope in the bin and tear out recipes that I want to keep; I store them in there until I can file them in my cookbook." — C.C. in Minnesota

• "I make a lot of sandwiches, and sometimes I have a few slices of meat or cheese left over. Not enough to make a sandwich, but I don’t want to waste it, either. I have started using them to make a lovely chef’s salad for myself." — E.R. in Virginia

• "I use an empty hard-plastic travel container that originally held wet wipes to hold my coupons. It keeps them organized as I walk through the store, and its surface is great for writing on." — I.L. in Arkansas
