INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have
Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.
Activity at Neck City.
G.L. Cole was in from Neck
City today on business and reports his town enjoying
phenomenal growth. The mining interests are increasing in
importance every day. He is manager and owns one half the
stock of the Neck City Real Estate Co. which has laid out
an addition to Neck City on the east. This addition has
only been open about three months but already 80 lots
have been sold, being about two thirds of the addition.
Many new buildings are going up.
There are now three big
mining mills running at Neck City - the Sphinx, the
Rubber Neck and that of the Ball Land Co. They are doing
a good business.
John Spruceby Tonight.
The John Spruceby company
arrived in the City this morning. They gave a street
concert on the square at noon with a hayseed band that

Just Jake
Talkin'
Mornin',
They always say that the
day after Thanksgivin is the biggest
shoppin day of the year. Im sure all
the local merchants are gearin up to be
ready.
I typically, on the other hand,
am engaged in those "have to" projects
scheduled for last spring. If it turns out ta be
a bad weather day, so much the better.
Nothin like eatin leftovers and
nappin on the couch after the day of
thanks.
Fact is, probly the most
thankful most folks are is the fact that
Thanksgivin always comes on a Thursday.
Course the fact that the
Friday is a big retail day means a lotta folks
are at work to take care of customers. If
youre on the shopper end of this equation,
you might thank the clerk for showin up on
the job.
This is some fact, but mostly,
Just Jake Talkin.

Your Good Health
By Paul G. Donohue, M.D.Night Sweats
Usually Not Sign of Illness
DEAR DR. DONOHUE:
I would love you to address night sweats. I live
in a climate that is cool at night all year
round, but I drench my nightgown and bedclothes
every night. Whats causing this? -- A.K.
ANSWER: Body
temperature has a normal daily variation. In the
early-morning hours -- around 3 a.m. -- body
temperature is at its lowest. Thats normal.
For the body to achieve that lower temperature,
it produces more sweat that evaporates for
cooling. Some people have an exaggeration of this
process and pour out sweat that soaks them and
the bed.
Furthermore, at
night, urine production slows. The body still
wants to get rid of fluid, and it does so by
increasing its sweat output. Both of these are
normal phenomena.
Check your
rooms humidity. It might be too high for
the sweat to dry. A dehumidifier could be the
answer. Alcohol and nicotine promote sweating.
Dont drink any alcohol after 5 p.m., and if
you smoke, stop.
I must include the
list of illnesses that can be linked to night
sweats. Lymph-node cancer, including
Hodgkins disease, is one. Diabetics tend to
sweat more at night. An overactive adrenal gland
or an overactive thyroid gland promotes night
sweats. Hidden infections are another possible
cause. TB is also cited as producing night
sweats, but in truth it rarely does so. Other
infections can. Although these illnesses are not
usually found to be responsible for night sweats,
you should mention this to your doctor.
If you take your
temperature when you wake up sweating and find
that it is normal, thats a piece of
evidence that speaks in favor of the innocence of
your night sweats.
