Sold A Mortgaged Horse.

A man by the name of J.W. Lindley sold Henry Tangner a nice bay mare some time ago, but G.G. Truesdell held a mortgage on the same and brought the matter before Justice McCune’s notice yesterday afternoon. Henry, however, concluded to surrender the property when it came to a trial, and so it was compromised, Mr. Truesdell taking the mare and paying the costs. Several gentlemen here would like to see Lindley, but he has drifted away, no one knows where.

Geo. L. Brown, who was arrested Tuesday on a warrant sworn out by his mother, Nancy Brown, changed with whipping and abusing her, was arraigned this morning before Justice Rinehart. The evidence showed clearly, that the charge was correct and the justice sentenced the defendant to 250 days in the county jail and to pay the costs.

Mornin',

I grew up with a half Siamese cat that did what it darn well pleased. For some reason I decided to try and train the cat. I started feedin’ it pieces of cheese. The cat loved it and I began whistlin’ every time I gave her a treat. After a while I started whistlin’ at the cat when it was layin’ somewhere close. Her ears would perk up a little and I knew I was makin’ some headway.

Eventually on occasion the cat would actually come over and I’d give her the cheese. What I finally started to realize was the cat would only come when it wanted to. In effect, the cat had trained me to go to the refrigerator and get it some cheese. If the cat wanted to eat some cheese it would come when I whistled. We both eventually came to understand the arrangement.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Inflammation Shuts Down the Thyroid Gland

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: My daughter, who is 59 years old, has been gaining weight (40 pounds). Much money, missed work, many tests and specialists have not helped her. Six weeks ago, she was told she has Hashimoto’s disease, but nothing can be done for this very rare illness. Do you have any information on it? -- H.M.

ANSWER: If an audience were in front of me and I asked if anyone had heard of Hashimoto’s disease, not a hand would be raised. Yet it is a common condition and is the leading cause of hypothyroidism, a thyroid gland that has stopped making thyroid hormone. About one in every 250 women has or will have it.

The body’s immune system, for unknown reasons, declares war on the thyroid gland. As time goes by, fewer and fewer thyroid gland cells are left to make thyroid hormone. Eventually, the gland produces little to no hormone. That’s hypothyroidism.

People without thyroid hormone are tired all the time. They gain weight without eating much, because the body’s metabolism slows and burns few calories. Hypothyroid patients cannot tolerate cold. Skin dries. The voice hoarsens. Constipation is a common complication. Menstrual periods are out of kilter. Memory dims. Not all of these things happen to all hypothyroid patients, but, given time, many of them do.

Hashimoto’s disease is cured with thyroid hormone. All that’s involved is taking one pill a day for life.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Opinions expressed are those of the writer and not necessarily those of the Mornin’ Mail.

Even though I am out of the United States at this time, I am trying to stay current with news in Jasper County via the internet. I recently observed former Presiding Commissioner Danny Hensley is making a run for that office. As a retired Eastern District Commissioner and a co-worker of Mr. Hensley, I can vouch for his abilities and integrity.
We need commissioners who understand the value of the tax-payers’ dollars. We need commissioners who realize with the new law-enforcement tax, for which both he and I were in favor, general revenue funds can be released and must be properly monitored. We need commissioners who realize there is a road and bridge tax for road improvements and that the revenues are used appropriately. We need commissioners who are accessible at all times during office hours. We need commissioners who are willing to give a day’s work for a day’s pay. We need commissioners who hold themselves responsible to their office and the constituency.
Danny Hensley fills the bill for all these qualifications, and I encourage the voters of Jasper County to support him and give him their vote in the November election. When I return to Jasper County in December, I hope he is the newly elected Jasper County Presiding Commissioner.
Sincerely,
Lloyd Burgi

Experience Counts
Dear Editor:
The general election, Tuesday, November 7th, is fast approaching and we will be deciding on Jasper County’s Presiding Commissioner.
Through the years Danny Hensley has demonstrated so many good American values:
Courage, integrity, honesty and most of all he is compassionate and caring. I have great admiration for Danny Hensley. It takes courage to run for presiding commissioner of Jasper County as a write-in candidate.
Danny Hensley will watch our taxpayer’s dollars; he will keep our county financially strong. Among Danny’s many attributes is if he tells you that he will do something, he keeps faith and does it. He is a man of his word. He has given so much to Jasper County right from his heart. As Presiding Commissioner, he worked long hours to take care of his county - Jasper County.
He was one of the founders of Midwest Gathering of the Artists, where again he has given freely of his time and talent. I have known Danny Hensley for many years and he is the man we need at this time as Presiding Commissioner of Jasper County. He is widely known for his hard work and honesty.
In 1986, I was owner of the Carthage radio station, KDMO, as well as, the FM radio station, and I worked with Danny on the County Commissioner’s proposed quarter-cent sales tax.
Danny’s experience of 16 years as Presiding Commissioner allows Danny to step right in with a position of strength to carry the county forward. I strongly endorse Danny Hensley as an Independent write-in candidate for Presiding Commissioner of Jasper County on November 7th.
Be sure to write in Danny Hensley below the other candidate and draw a line to connect the two arrows.
