Regular Army Recruits.
Men Being Enlisted Here For
Three Years' Service,
Lieut. Longan, of the 11th U.S. Inf.,
arrived yesterday and has opened a recruiting station in
the vacant room adjacent to the fire department. He is
assisted by Dr. T.P. McCluney, of Sedalia, Sergt. Beatty
and Private Malloy, also of the 11th. They are receiving
recruits for three years' service in the regular army-
with privilege of resigning at the close of the war, as
per order of the adjutant general which reads as follows:
" By direction of the secretary of
war it is announced that men enlisted or reenlisted in
the regular army during the war may be informed that they
will be granted their discharges, if desired, at the
close of the war, upon their individual applications. Up
to 3:30 today the following recruits have been examined
and received."
At Sedalia 61 recruits were received
and at Warrensburg nine. Lieut. Longan will remain here
as long as recruits will justify.

Interium Hospital Administrator.
The McCune Brooks Hospital
Board has named Bob Copeland as interim Hospital
Administrator following the announcement by
current Administrator Jim McPheeters that he will
be retiring. McPheeters recently was recognized
for his twenty-five years of service to the
hospital.
Copeland has worked for the
Carthage health facility for two years and has a
Master's Degree in Health Care Management. He has
served as the Director of Patient Services since
his arrival here and was formerly the CEO of a
Tulsa, Ok. hospital.
"My goal is to insure that
we maintain the high quality of care that has
come to be expected from McCune Brooks,"
Copeland told the Mornin' Mail yesterday.
Board President Stan Schmidt
says McPheeters' announcement came at the close
of the Board meeting and no time frame has been
established for a permanent replacement at this
time.

Just Jake
Talkin'
Mornin',
There arent many of
the "old fort" left. With the
announced comin retirement of Jim
McPheeters from McCune Brooks, most of the
"twenty-some" year community
leaders have now retired. In the last few
years the City has seen the retirement of
long time Fire Chief Don Simmons, Assistant
to the City Engineer Harold Neely, CW&EP
Production Manager John Garrett, and most
recently Police Chief Ed Ellefsen.
Others have key personnel have also
retired with less fanfare. The City has been
fortunate to attract and keep quality
Department Heads and management personnel
over the last twenty years.
It appears that the
"new generation" of City management
has made the transition to their new roles
without any major hitch to this point.
Hopefully were in for another good
decade or two.
This is some fact, but
mostly,
Just Jake Talkin.

Intro to the Internet
The World Wide Web is the most
talked about component of the Internet today. It
is also the one component of the Internet that is
advancing ( in terms of technology) the fastest.
As you travel from place to place, information is
constantly being transferred back and forth
between client and server computers.
While you're
"surfing" the World Wide Web, you use
Hypertext Links (Some time called Hot Links) to
quickly travel from one location to another.
These links change colors after
you click on them. This makes it easier for you
to keep track of where you've been. In addition,
these links could take you anywhere. Clicking on
a hypertext link could connect you to another
town, state, or even country.
Of course, links aren't the
only way to connect to another location. Each
World Wide Web site has its own individual
address. You've probably seen commercials on
television where they show an address that; looks
something like 'http://www.company.com/'. This is
the World Wide Web Address of that company. The
real name for this address in Uniform Resource
Locator (or URL) and you can easily access that
particular company by typing the address directly
in the location field on your browser.
