today's laugh

Lucy: Is it correct to say that you water your horse?

Mother: Yes, dear.

Lucy: Then I'm going to milk the cat.

The drunk staggered into the bank, shoved five ten-spots to the cashier and ordered two cases.

"Two cases of what?"

"Don't know what you call it," said the drunk, "but I'll take a couple of them four per cents you people advertise."

Isn't it strange how much we've got to know before we know how little we know?

The process of getting old is a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

REVIVAL CLOSES TONIGHT.

Big Meeting Last Evening and Special Services This Afternoon.

The Culpepper revival meetings close tonight, and the call has been so pressing from Webb City that Mr. Culpepper will probably go there instead of to Monett from Carthage.

Last night he preached on "Opportunity" not taking any particular text. His point was that now is the opportunity to be saved and something like 37 conversions were made. Of these and other converts 32 joined churches represented at the meetings.

Rev. Mr. Culpepper estimates the total number of converts during the meetings here at 150.

The last day tent service was held this morning, and at 4 and 4:30 this afternoon special services were addressed to young ladies and men at the Westminister and South Methodist churches.

  Today's Feature

Trashy Pickup Comments.

The rising number of complaints about missed trash pickup are being monitored closely by the Carthage Engineering Department. Department Head Joe Butler advises that if any residential solid waste does not get picked up as scheduled, a call to the Engineering Department before 1:00 p.m. could possibly resolve the problem the same day.

The City renewed its five year contract with American Disposal for solid waste removal on the 1st of September. Mayor Kenneth Johnson has requested that the Engineering Department keep a log of all missed pickups and attempt to resolve what seems to be an ongoing city-wide problem.

Butler also says that all trash pickup scheduled for Thanksgiving Day will be picked up on the following day, Friday, November 27. This will also push the regular Friday trash pickup to Saturday according to the contract. The contract also states that all residential customers "shall receive one collection per week" and all residential collections shall be completed by 3 p.m.

To contact the City Engineering Department call 237-7010. To contact American Disposal call 358-6999.

Mornin',

I don't get too worked up over an occasional oversight. It's mighty nice when the trash is picked up on schedule however. The couple a times they passed by our house a couple a months a go seemed to be corrected with a phone call. New help they said. Seems now we're seein' a lot a new help.

I'm sure this is just a phase the trash hauler is goin' through. The City is on top of this and does have the ability to cancel the current contract if the service isn't up to par. I'd be guessin' that there will be some improvements in the near future.

The holiday's always get things a little outa whack, but there is a plan to the trash haulin' thing. As long as your neighbor's cat (your's wouldn't do such a thing) doesn't tear into that trash bag full of leftovers, the Thanksgivin' trash should get removed on Friday or Saturday.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Intro to the Internet.

Growth of the Internet

Since the early "80’s, when the government began to share their network technology with the world, there has been growth on the scale that is hard to imagine. To put it into better perspective, in the early 80’s there were only 213 registered hosts on the Internet by 1986, there were over 4.85 million registered hosts. This number does not include personal computer that were accessing the Internet, but merely the number of servers that make up the Internet.

Who Owns the Internet?

No one person or country owns the Internet. Literally millions of governments, corporations, universities, commercial companies and citizens own the Internet jointly. What this means is no one can control it in group called the National Science foundation that over looks methods of improving the Internet performance. The NSF is supported by a group called the Internet Engineering Task Force or IETF committee. This committee has to conform to guidelines that are set by the Internet Architecture Board or IAB.

In reality there are many groups that manage every facet of the Internet. You can probably live a very prosperous life on the Internet without knowing they exist.
