today's
laugh
Little Willie was in a store with his
mother when he was given candy by one of the clerks.
"What must you say, Willie?"
"Charge it," he replied.
"Uncle Louis," said little
Eleanor, "do you know that a baby that was fed on
elephant's milk gained 20 pounds in a few weeks?"
"Nonsense! Impossible!"
exclaimed Uncle Louis. "Whose baby was it?"
"The elephant's baby,"
remarked little Eleanor.
"Mama, do pigs have babies?"
"Why of course, my dear."
"Someone told me they had little
pigs."

Today's Feature Myers Park Interest, But No Principal.
The offer to sell the Myers
Park Development property in total for $2.5
million has drawn some interest, according to
Economic Development Director Max McKnight, but
it appears that there will be no offers for
purchase before next Tuesday's regular Council
meeting. The Council put the property up for sale
with an October 26 deadline for offers.
McKnight said yesterday that
inquiries about the property were sincere and he
felt the price asked was not the major hold up,
but most of those interested just didn't want to
take on the whole project. If the Council decides
to go back to the original plan of selling
smaller partials of 7 to 10 acres, McKnight
thinks some of the property could sell quickly.
Of the 120 acres of raw land
available in the tract, approximately 90 acres
will be available for development. The remaining
acreage will be consumed by streets, City right
of ways and a view corridor.
A closed session is anticipated
after the regular Council meeting Tuesday to
discuss the matter and to decide how to proceed
with the proposed land sale.
Time To Fire Up the Kilns.
by Robin Putnam, artCentral
It's hard to believe it's been
one whole year already! Actually, the 'new' board
really started in the summer before the summer we
started working on the Geranium House. That means
some of the present board members terms will
expire in May of 1999! Yipes! Think we can get
them to 're-up' ?! Maybe. Those who's terms are
up in May are....Don Knost, Helen Kunze, Pam
Barlet and myself. Also in May will be the
membership meeting and the election of new
officers. So...all members put May in the back of
your minds and prepare to come to the meeting and
VOTE!
The Board met this last Tuesday
evening and covered quite a lot of ground...AND
in record time!! We were done and out the door by
8:15!! Anyone interested in what's going on in
welcome to attend our Board meetings. They are
the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Come by
sometime!
With the cooler weather coming
it's the perfect time to fire up the kilns.
Anyone interested in working in clay...sculpture,
wheel-throwing or hand building pottery should
make plans to hang out in our 'mud room'! It's a
lot of fun and a lot of mess..but hey! it's mud
what else would you expect!
We hope the ladies painting
group will want to start up again..it's always
sooo much more fun to have lots of warm bodies
out here! Think about it! Speaking of warm
bodies..Anyone want a darling little calico
kitten? Call and leave a message!
Did you know that of the top
200 SERIOUS art collectors in the WORLD! one of
them lives in Shawnee Mission, Kansas!! No
kidding!! Actually..it's husband and wife and
they collect Impressionist and Post-Impressionist
art!! Boy...getting a glimpse of those works
would really be something!! Think there could be
a Monet or Van Gogh in that collection!! Wonder
if they would let a lowly VP of a local arts
organization take a peek? Another 2 top
collectors live in St. Louis and one in Arkansas
but unfortunately that's about it for the
Midwest. Most of these top collectors live
outside the US. 87 out of 200 lives in this
country. Can you imagine having sooo much money
that you collect expensive art to impress other?
Quoting from ARTnews magazine, Summer 1998
issue..some collectors "usually collect for
social status...." However, the article
quickly points out that those types of collectors
are not really represented in their top 200 list.
These folks collect for their own pleasure and
the enjoyment of the works themselves.
So....you're not in their
league, huh? Not many of us are. At least not in
the league of spending millions..but we can still
be collectors! if we make a conscience effort to
search out and purchase ORIGINAL works of art!
There are tons of artists right here under you
noses!! You could have a collection of local art
that would be the pride of the Midwest!!
More......next week.

Just Jake
Talkin'
Mornin',
If ya haven't heard of the
issue concernin' cock fightin' and bear
wrestlin' that gonna be on the November 3
ballot, it looks like ya will soon. There is
an all out effort to get the proposal voted
down. There are a couple a provisions of the
proposed statute that I have some real
trouble with. If passed, it would be illegal
to manufacture, sell, or even own any
cockfighting implements, even though ya
didn't use 'em in Missouri or use 'em at all.
The language also specifically exempts
Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association
sanctioned current practices for rodeos. The
word current in the exemption would indicate
that future PRCA practices may come under
this statute. Those participatin' in non
sanctioned rodeos are takin' this ta mean all
other rodeos are to be regulated. Hunters,
fishermen, and sporting dog owners are a
little nervous too. Wonder what Colonel
Sanders woulda thought.
This is some fact, but
mostly,
Just Jake Talkin'.

What is Touch for Health? It is
a proven process of health management and
improvement. It is a system of muscle testing and
balancing that uses principles of Chinese
medicine, massage, energy work and postural
alignment to enhance strength, improve energy
levels, and release physical and mental stress
and pain.
Touch for Health works by
balancing the structural, chemical and emotional
elements of our bodies. Modern scientific method
has conclusively proven the comnnection between
these areas, and TFH includes techniques that
work on each level. One often feels pain when
muscles are tightened and strained. In TFH,
release often lies in correcting the muscles
doing the opposite action, which are often found
weak. Once balance is restored, tight muscles can
relax.
In a Level one Touch for Health
session, one will learn how to use massage
points, holding points, meridians and muscle
massage. One will have the opportnuity to learn
the technique of muscle testing on oneself,
eliminating the need to "be tested" on
a periodic basis by another person to determine
"what your needs are." Take control of
your own health program by incorporating new
knowledge and techniques in which you can learn
to rely on yourself.
Of course, these techniques do
not substitute for proper medical care and
analysis. We cannot disregard the technilogical
advances which can lead to extremely accurate
diagnosis and then incorporate our own path to
recovery.
