Vehicle act, Chapter XVIII, Paragraph 187, reads:
"It is a misdemeanor to shoot at
any kind of game bird or mammal-except a whale,
from an automobile or airplane."
The law of Shawnee, Okla., defines a
nuisance as follows:
"When three or more dogs
congregate on any private property without the consent
of the owner or occupant and annoy such owners or
occupants..."
Section 74, State Housing Act, of
California reads:

INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have
Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.
Missouri Pacific Cars Robbed.
Freight cars at the Missouri Pacific
were broken into Thursday night and a quantity of flour
stolen. Today Jim Briggs and Chas. Roberts were arrested
on the charge. Flour was found at their homes on Tiger
hill. Roberts' trial was set for September 24.
Wedding While You Wait.
W.R. Gilmore of Galena and Miss Emma
Fink of Barry County were married this morning at half
past eight o'clock by Rev. Geo. Barnhart at his store at
Howard avenue and Fourth street. The couple accidentally
stopped at the store to inquire where a minister might be
found and were promptly informed that right there was the
place. They were married, paid the fee and departed in
less than ten minutes. Rev. Barnhart now thinks of
hanging out his shingle to read: "Weddings speedily
and satisfactorily performed."

Talkin'
Mornin',
If ya haven't had the
opportunity to meet the new Police Chief
Dennis Veach, you can attend the mornin'
coffee sponsored by Main Street Carthage this
Wednesday. The Chief is gonna do a little
speakin' there at the Fix Coffee Shop
startin' around 7:00. Be a good chance to get
a close look and hear some about how he plans
to operate the department - ask a few of
those questions you have been kickin' around.
You might want to ask that all time favorite,
"where's a cop when ya really need
one," I'm sure he'll be glad to give you
a reasonable answer.
If ya didn't hear it
before, Chief Veach came ta Carthage after
bein with the Columbia, Missouri department
for 23 years. His last position was as the
Deputy Chief. Columbia has 117 officers.
There is no charge for the
meetin', coffee and breakfast is available at
normal rates.
This is some fact, but
mostly,
Just Jake Talkin'.

The Super Handy Man
Q: We just moved into a house
heated by floor furnaces. Should we cover the
furnaces during the off season to keep the dust
out? -G.G.
A: Not only do you want to keep
out dust, you wouldn't want your air conditioner
to have to cool the crawl space under the floor.
Take up the floor grille and
cut a piece of plywood or hardboard to fit it.
You can tape the wood to the underside and slip
the grille back into place.
You also could tape a plastic
trash bag to the bottom of the grille.
Q: We have copper gutters on
our home and must replace a downspout. It's on
the back where it's not seen, and I had planned
to just use an inexpensive aluminum downspout. A
friend tells me that joining unlike metals will
cause a galvanic reaction that could ruin one or
both metals. Is this true? -Y.P.
A: Possibly. Spray-paint the
surfaces of both components where they will come
in contact with each other. That would be outside
the copper and inside the aluminum. Use a paint
specified for metal.
When dry, the paint should
ensure that there's no actual contact of the two
metals.
SUPER HINT: If you have kept
wicker furniture in storage over the winter ,
treat it to a warm bath. Clean it with a little
diluted soap water. Rinse it and let it sun dry.
The chair should smell and look great.
