(Musician playing cornet on Sunday)

Clergyman: Do you know the Fourth Commandment, my good man?

Musician: No, but if you will just whistle it over, I'll do my best.

I like Faust.

George Washington sang in Faust.

George Washington sang in Faust?

Yeah- Faust in War, Faust in Peace and Faust in the hearts of his countrymen.

I don't think the gentleman next door knows much about music.

Why?

Well, he told me this morning to cut my drum open and see what was inside it.

I've got a new idea. Fortune in it.

What now?

It's an alarm clock that emits the delicious odors of frying bacon and coffee.

INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.

Distressing Accident in St. Louis.

St. Louis, April 14 - A shanty, in which ten young men were sleeping off the effects of a debauch, burned today, and as a result James Hogan was baked to death and Basit Carroll is dying at the city hospital. James Kennerfick is also at the hospital, but although his burns are serious, he will not die as a result of them. The remaining seven escaped with slight burns and blisters.

Two Weddings.

Justice Garland had his old time luck today and two more weddings were added to his already long list.

At 1 o'clock this afternoon at his residence, Jas. M. Etter and Miss Nettie Conroy, both of Lincoln township, were united in matrimony, and at 3 p.m., he officiated at the wedding of A. K. Wolf, of Stotts City, and Miss Maud Peterson, of Webb City, which took place at the Arlington hotel.

Airport Appraisal Proposed.

A proposed agreement that would begin the appraisal process involving land acquisition for a new municipal airport was included in last night’s City Council Agenda. The document calls for Hunter Appraisals of Joplin to determine a fair value for 153.9 acres of land just north of City limits and an additional 14.4 acres to be acquired for aviation easement. Hunter Appraisals would have thirty days to complete the work.

According to City Administrator Tom Short, after the appraisal is completed, it will be submitted to a State certified review by The Valuation Group of Springfield.

The City currently has $500,000 set aside for airport development. The Budget/Ways Committee has included an additional $80,000 a year in their proposed five year plan for the same purpose. Funding from private sources of over $50,000 has also been pledged.

The proposed site would accommodate a 4,100 foot runway, but, initial discussion has been to build a runway of 3,500 feet that could eventually be use as a taxiway.

Just Jake Talkin'
Mornin',

Just in case ya weren’t aware, barring any unforeseen events, I was sworn in as a City Council member for the 1st Ward last night. I’m writtin’ this before so as ta not be tainted by any undue political influences.

There has been some wonderin’ ‘bout ‘xactly how I was gonna work both sides of the Council bench. Don’t really know at this point, I’ve never been on the other side before. I’d have ta guess I’ll have occasion to poke a little fun at the new member from time to time, just like ever’one else.

We’re not plannin’ on any radical changes in the efforts of the Mornin’ Mail to keep ya up to date on the in’s and out’s of City government. One thing I have grown accustomed to is keepin’ a closet full of different hats.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin’.

Massage Therapy News.

Secretaries Day is Wednesday April 21 this year, what a wonderful opportunity to let them know how much they are appreciated. Secretaries do a multitude of jobs, and they have to deal with a lot of people, their boss, co-workers, clients/customers and the general public.

Their jobs can be very stressful, and sometimes we take them for granted, and don't let them know what a great job they are doing. We need to let them know how much they are appreciated and needed all year long, but especially on their special day.

What will you give to your secretary this year, maybe the same thing as last year? Or maybe you would like to try something different this time. How about a massage gift certificate? You could have a massage therapist come to the work place and give them a corporate chair massage.

Corporate chair massage is a short, seated massage that comes to the workplace, and lasts approximately 15 minutes, uses no oil, and takes place with the employee fully clothed. It consists of shiatsu massage to the back, shoulders, neck, arms and hands. It leaves the employee relaxed and refreshed, ready to return to work.

So why not try something different this year and see how much your secretary appreciates you?
