I went to the mind reader, but she said she couldn't read me very easily.

Yeah, it's very difficult to read blank pages.

When Jake's dog tipped over a table in the cafe, four waiters dropped their trays at the same time, and two couples got up to dance, thinking it was a new rock number.

Your son is making god progress with his violin. He is beginning to play quite nice tunes.

Do you really think so? We were afraid that we'd merely got used to it.

Pop, how soon will I be old enough to do as I please?

I don't know. Nobody has ever lived that long yet.

BURGLARS MAKE A HAUL.

A Wagon Load of Groceries Taken From Munson's Store Last Night.

Burglars entered the Fulton street grocery store of J. W. Munson last night or this morning and carried off goods aggregating over $50 in value. The thieves must have had a wagon to carry off their plunder as they could not have made away with so much without a conveyance of some sort.

The entire stock of goods was ransacked and turned topsy turvy. The thieves carried off about 100 pounds of bacon, about the same amount of dry salt meat, a number of sacks of the best flour, 75 pounds of beans, a quantity of laundry soap, 75 pounds of beans, a quantity of laundry soap, 75 pounds granulated sugar, package and bulk coffee, baking soda, cigars, chewing gum, chewing tobacco, potatoes, etc.

The burglars overlooked a sack containing $20 in silver which was under the counter.

Just Jake Talkin'
Mornin',

I’ve always wondered how they gather the information used in makin’ those maps showin’ general attitudes in the different regions. The ones showin’ the percentage of voters turnin’ out is prob’ly fairly easy I suppose.

I saw one the other day that showed where folks lived that didn’t think they were gettin’ enough sleep. How do they figure that, call folks in the middle of the night and ask if they are awake? ‘Course I was interested to see that nearly the whole state of Missouri, except for the K.C and St. Louis area, felt rested most of the time. The map showed Kansas and Oklahoma feelin’ a little tired more often.

The real question is exactly what does it all mean. A good portion of Florida also reported a restful state. I don’t know if it means we are efficient or just lazy.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Weekly Column

Q: I have a common asphalt driveway. Someone told me that I should apply a sealer to it. What type do I use, and what purpose does it serve.

A: Apply a blacktop sealer. There are several such products available at hardware stores and home centers, and most are pretty easy to apply.

The sealer protects the surface and might also keep any goo from coming off onto your shoes.

Q: I want to remove about 300 square feet of old asbestos tiles in my den before installing new carpeting. What is going to be the best way to do it safely?

A: Flooring manufacturers suggest that you don't remove asbestos flooring if at all possible. If the asbestos remains dormant, there is no direct danger. Only when you disturb the asbestos is there any danger of creating dust particles that might be inhaled.

Since you are going to add carpeting , why not install the carpeting and padding over the old flooring?

If you do remove any asbestos products, be sure you read a brochure telling you how to handle it safely and dispose of it properly. Your flooring dealer should have such information, or you can contact the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
