People who cough incessantly never seem to go to a doctor - they go to banquets, concerts, and church.

One afternoon the boss’ wife met him at the office. As they were going down the elevator, it stopped, and a luscious blonde secretary got on, poked the boss in the ribs, and said, "Hello, cutie pie."

The wife, without blinking, leaned over and said, "I’m Mrs. Pie."

Dr. Hanson: So the operation on the man was just in the nick of time?

Dr. Poure: Yes, in another 24 hours he would have recovered.

Husband: How do you want the electric blanket tonight, dear...rare, medium, or well done?

Miss Hattie Perry Entertains.

Miss Hattie Perry entertained a few friends at her home on East Chestnut street last evening. Games, music and refreshments were features of the evening. The following were present: Messrs and Mesdames F. C. Hodson, Ed Bailey; Misses Edith Kerr, Minnie Havens, Georgia Rader, Jennie Stiffer, Stella Hodshier, Miss Kane; Messrs Fred Osborn, Lew Brown, Sam Boggess, Clayton Bradford and Charles Woodmansee.

W. H. Crane, until yesterday jailer at the county jail, was on the streets today wearing a happy smile and a yellow plug hat and looking as happy as a big sun flower. "The Judge," as he is known has made a most efficient official and the highest compliment that could be paid him in his official capacity is in the language of the prisoners. "If he don’t know his business I don’t know where you could find a man that does."

Appraisal Discussed.

Bill Putnam, Jr. told the Council Monday night that Highland Realty spent nearly $48,000 per acre to acquire land and replace topsoil for the Tapjac site in the Myers Park development.

"We made a mistake," said Putnam. He went on to say if there had been time for proper engineering studies and soil analysis, they would not have purchased the property. Putnam said they hauled thousands of truck loads of dirt out and then hauled dirt back onto the site. He said the existing soil was too spongy to allow for large truck deliveries. The seven acre property was sold for $19,000 per acre, the same price as paid by Wal-Mart.

The comments came during a joint work session for the Council and the Myers Park Development Committee where the recently received appraisal of the Myers Park property was discussed. Eric K. Hassani of The Valuation Group, Inc. from Springfield attended the meeting to answer questions concerning the appraisal. The Valuation Group also appraised the property three years ago. The Mayor moved the appraisal to the Development Committee for further study.

Mornin',

Although the meetin’ to discuss the Myers Park appraisal Monday night was mainly to answer any questions about how the numbers were arrive at, most of the comments were directed at the general direction of the development. There still seems ta be some major differences in opinion as to how Myers Park will be developed.

The two basic theories are sell fast and get sales tax flowin’, and sell slow and get the most per acre.

City Administrator Tom Short tried to emphasize the path somewhere in the middle of these two extremes, although he seemed ta lean a mite toward what he called the "long term" strategy of buildin’ a strong sales tax base.

What most ever’one agreed on was that an appraisal is just that. The market will be the true judge of the value of Myers Park.

I’m still doubtful that any property sells ‘til after the City elections in April. Should make for interestin’ campaign speeches.

This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin’.
