"I come to the museum every afternoon with my husband. He’s interested in some old fossil."

"Well, don’t worry. It’s probably a harmless flirtation."

Policeman: What’s your name?

Offender: John Smith.

Policeman: Come on. None of that. Give me your real name.

Offender: Well, put me down as William Shakespeare.

Policeman: That’s better. You can’t fool me with that Smith stuff.

"Have you a car?"

"I have a new car - a father-in-law special."

"A father-in-law special?"

"Yeah - the crank is in the back seat."

Food in Tablet Form.

In a talk between a reporter and a Carthage druggist the conservation drifted to food in compressed form and possibilities of rations for soldiers, explorers, Alaska gold hunters, etc., and some interesting information was elicited from the pharmacist.

The man of drugs said "you would be surprised if you knew the number of people who take their lunch downtown and carry it in their vest pocket." He showed the reporter a small round tablet the size of a cough drop, "that is what is known as a malted milk lunch tablet. It contains all the necessary ingredients to make health, bone and muscle, and a man can live on these alone for an indefinite period. Twenty of them constitute a square meal for a strong, healthy man. All you have to do is let them dissolve in your mouth and swallow. They are very palatable. They are popular with busy men as they can be eaten without interfering with work."

Options Still Open.

The vote to override the Mayor’s veto of the reopening of Myers Memorial Airport fell short at last Monday’s City Council meeting. The reported effort to persuade votes with phone calls and personal conversation was not enough to move any vote from the position taken on the original council bill.

Henry, Johnson, Fortune, and Clark remained firmly against the proposal as presented, but Clark and Fortune both stated that they would consider rethinking the issue if critical questions were answered to their satisfaction.

Fortune said that FAA approval, insurance, and an accurate cost estimate for reopening the airstrip would have to be in place in order for him to reconsider.

Clark pushed for a more defined council bill also. She stated that she had worked hard to get the bill clarified before the original vote when she requested hard facts concerning the reopening.

Council member Charlie Bastin, who originated the vetoed bill, said there will be another attempt to bring a reopening bill to the Council.

Mornin',

The tv cameras were present at Monday's Council meetin'. Two of 'em. This was the first time in a while the area stations had visited the Council Chamber. They were there for the veto vote of course.

Can't blame 'em too much for wantin' to get the story, vetoes don't happen ever'day. They got back to the station in time ta get it on the 10 o'clock news too.

I suppose it's nice ta know that an issue facin' the City is worthy of regional interest, but sometimes the cameras affect the "performance" of the evenin'.

There was a fair number of interested parties in the audience also for the meetin'. This also is noted by some as havin' an influence on the enthusiasm exhibited by debate participants.

The cameras seldom recognize these subtle changes 'cause they only catch bits and pieces. A few quick frames for effect. They do give us a feel though, as to how it appears to those on the outside lookin' in.

This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin'.
