Mark: Ill bet youre one of those people who drop their work and beat it as soon as the 5:00 p.m. whistle blows. Clark: Not me. After I quit work I usually wait about ten minutes for the whistle to blow. |

1897 INTERESTING MELANGE. A Chronological Record of Events as they have Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue. In Their New Shop. Two years ago last month Jay Butcher came to Carthage from Ohio and began working for George Caffee, who then operated a blacksmith shop in an old building at the corner of Fifth and Grant streets. In the February following. He bought out his employer and has carried on the business at the old stand ever since. In order to meet the demands of his steadily increasing trade, Mr. Butcher, this spring, arranged with Miss Kittie Platt, from whom he has been renting, for the erection of a substantial brick shop on the site of the old structure. This has just been completed, and is now occupied by Messars, Butcher & Chapman - the latter being Mr. Bert Chapman, who came into the firm in June last. Continued on Thursday |

Just
Jake Talkin' Mornin', Durin the little warnin cold spell that arrived last week, I began checkin for any breakdown in the weather strip and caulkin around windows, doors and other likely spots. From what I hear, this week will give us a little warmer weather to get out and seal up those thieves of heat. Course the first purchase is onea those expandin foam type a stuff. I see they have the new "giant" size available now. There just never seems ta be enough a that in one can. The old fashioned caulkin gun is probly the most inexpensive avenue for most. It just isnt near as much fun as watchin that foam expand into odd shapes and drip into a pile when it falls out. Id have ta guess that at least half a can is the most I actually get any used of. The rest has ta be considered as entertainment value. At least it makes crawlin round under the house a little less annoyin. This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin. |
