1897 INTERESTING MELANGE. A Chronological Record of Events as they have Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue. Will Serve a Year in Jail. Al Brook was brought up from Duenweg today to serve a year in the county jail for assault and disturbance. He was badly disfigured about the face as the result of resisting an officer. Altogether he was when admitted today about as tough looking specimen as could be behind bars.
Jasper county ought not to have a mile of bad road within her borders. She has the material and energy to make the best wagon roads in Missouri and the two should be gotten together without delay.

Feature EM Task Force Meets. At its first meeting last week, the Emergency Management Task Force focused on an Emergency Operating Center (EOC) Organizational Chart which delineates how the City government, City personnel and resources, both City and otherwise, would be allocated during an emergency. According to Task Force Chair Lujene Clark, this chart, once completed, will be used by department heads and other City officials to determine areas of responsibility during an emergency. Each will review the Citys current plan and examples from other cities so to devise an updated, realistic plan for managing responsibilities. The task force will incorporate each departments section into a new emergency management plan that Clark hopes to complete by Dec. 31. Discussion of the organizational chart centered around the need for an emergency management coordinator who updates the plan, notifies all officials of changes to the plan, attends trainings, advises the Mayor and Council and works in the EOC during an emergency. The Task Force plans to develop a job description and approach the Council about creating the position. |

Jake Talkin' Mornin', The one good thing 'bout holidays like Columbus Day is that it reminds us that the world does not revolve around our own schedule. It's a humbling experience to prepare for the daily routine of makin' it to the bank, a stop by the Courthouse, and waitin' on the mail, just to finally realize that on that particular day, none a that is gonna happen. Even after I pulled on the bank door and walked up the steps to the Courthouse, I still checked and worried that somethin' had happened to the mail carrier. It was neigh on to 2 o'clock 'fore I finally accepted the fact that there would be no mail delivery. It was as if the rest of the world had just stopped for a day. There was a quick glimpse of hope that somehow Columbus Day could be used as a "catch up" day. That idea was soon left in the pile of outgoin' mail that would still be a day late to its destination and trips that still had to be made, another day. This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin'. |
